Grand National

Anibale Fly was 4th last year and is the class horse having been placed 3rd and 2nd in last the last two Gold Cups.  I think he has too much weight to carry here.

Tiger Roll was last years winner.  A versatile type he has won a Grade 2 hurdle at Navan and the Cheltenham Cross Country on his last two starts. Could go well again and I can see him in the top 6.

Go Conquer won the SkyBet Chase over 3m at Doncaster on  his last outing.  Two years ago he ran in the Topham Chase over the National fences but was last of the finishers.

Minella Rocco won the 4 miler at Cheltenham and was 2nd in the Gold Cup the year after. Has failed to complete on 3 of his last 6 races.

Lake View Lad has won his last 2 races in decent company, the Rehearsal Chase at Newcastle, the Rowland Meyrick at Wetherby and followed this with an excellent 3rd in the Ultima at Cheltenham. He stays 3 miles well and would be a contender if he gets the longer trip.

Pleasant Company was runner up last season, only beaten a head.  He has more weight to carry this time but is a good jumper and has been trained with this race in mind. Should give a good account.

Ballyoptic was only beaten a nose ion the Scottish National last season.  6th of 20 in the Welsh National this season and was a faller in the Becher Chase over these fences in December.

Dounikos won on his last outing in the decent 3.5 miles handicap at Punchestown. Has failed to finish in 4 of his last 7 starts.

Rathvinden was the Cheltenham 4 miler last season and on his last start he won the BobbyJoe chase at Fairyhouse. Definite contender.

One for Arthur won this race 2 years ago but has since been injured and recent form has not been encouraging.

Rock the Kasbah was runner up in the Whitbread at Sandown last April over 3 miles 5. Jumps well and has Richard Johnson on board.

Magic of Light was 3rd of 25 at Navan in the Troytown Chase in November. 7th in the Ultima at Cheltenham in March.  Probably not quite god enough.

Noble Endeavor was 6th in the Irish National 2 years ago and third in the Ultima that season. Has had injury problems and there are those with better chances.

Monbeg Notorious was 6 of 14 in the Leinster National at Naas last time out.

Ramses de Teille was runner up in both the Welsh National and the Haydock National Trial this season.  Only a 7 year old and they have a very poor record in this race.

Step Back won the Whitbread last season and is one to consider.

Ultragold likes these fences having won the Topham and been placed in the Becher and the Grand Sefton.  Each way chance.

Up For Review was 3rd in the Thystes at Gowran Park this season. Doubts about his stamina I think.

Vieux Lion Rouge has never fallen over these fences but probably doesn’t quite get this trip.

Vintage Clouds has a decent CV for this race. 3rd in a Scottish National and 4th in a Welsh National he has also been 2nd and 3rd in Ultima Chases at Cheltenham.

General Principle won the Irish National last season so is one to consider.

Walk in the Mill won this season’s Becher Chase which makes him one to consider here.

Joe Farrell won the Scottish National last season and he only carries 10 stone 2 here.
