Diary: December 31 2014

12.40 The main interest here will be the reappearance of Cheltenian, winner of the 2011 Cheltenham Festival bumper. He has had injury problems so a watching brief is advised. The testing ground will not be ideal for him.

2.10 Oscartara is another returning from a lay off. A points winner in Ireland he also won a bumper at Bangor last time he ran.

3.40 Binge Drinker, runner up in a bumper at Worcester on his debut, looks a likely winner for Rebecca Curtis.

December 28 2013

12.30 This may go to the Nicholls runner Ceasar Milan but I am inclined to look elsewhere for value. Minella for Friend should appreciate a test of stamina in the likely heavy ground and looks each way value.

1.30 Pure Science was 6th in the Champion bumper at Cheltenham last season and should go well.

2.00 I quite like Solar Impulse for this. He is proven on heavy ground.

2.35 Highland Lodge (4th in the Hennessy), Tour Des Champs (4th in the Scottish National) plus Merry King and Goulanes all have chances. Highland Lodge would be my pick.

12.15 Baradari should appreciate the ground.

1.45 Oscar Rock was runner up at Newcastle on his last start and the winner has since gone in again at Cheltenham.

2.15 Vukovar has shown that he handles give in the ground and should go well.

2.50 Black River is another with winning form on heavy ground.

Catterick selection

2.35 Big Water

1.25 Western Warhorse has put in ywo solid performances over hurdles this season at Cheltenham and Newbury. He makes his debut over fences here off what looks a reasonable mark. He is a point to point winner.

2.00 Just a Par could turn out to be something special but following odds on favourites in a novice chase makes little appeal. I will take a chance on the northern challenger Green Flag. He is unbeaten in three starts over fences, jumps very well, and acts on soft ground.

2.35 This looks to be between The New One and My Tent or Yours. My preference is for the latter.

3.10 This is a tough one to call. At the odds I will take Silviano Conti with Cue Card the danger.

3.45 Seebright has won 6 of his 10 starts and at 10/1 looks the value.

12.10 Milo Man and Heath Hunter look the pair to concentrate on. Milo Man is very well thought of by connections and may just have the edge over this trip.

2.05 Tarabela has a good attitude and is 2 out of 3 at Towcester.

Wincanton selections

2.15 Champagne West

3.55 Sergeant Thunder

Wetherby selections

1.45 Cloudy Too

Down Royal

12.30 Rye Martini is an improving sort well suited by soft ground.

1.35 Smashing

December 21 2013

1.15 O’Faolain’s Boy looks the type to make a chaser.

1.50 Grey Gold and Pendra are the two I like in this.

3.35 Rolling Star, Chatterbox, Irish Saint, Pine Creek, Dell’ Arca and Swing Bowler form my short list. Rolling Star acts on nsoft ground and comes here on the back of a win. Chatterbox was runner up at Newbury last time out and may well improve for that run. Irish Saint was a faller in that Newbury race. He is a chaser in the making and may need a bit further than this. P9ne Creek is a course and distance winner and was 6th at Cheltenham on his last start. Dell’ Arca was most impressive when winning at Cheltenham on his British debut last month. The mare Swing Bowler was 3rd in the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury last season and makes her seasonal debut here. This is an open race with Dell’ Arca and Chatterbox my preferences.

Haydock selections

2.05 Loch Ba

2.40 Special Catch

3.15 Sausalito Sunrise

Newcastle selections

12.40 Swatow Typhoon

1.10 Josses Hill comes here on the back of some pretty decent bumper form and looks a serious contender. The new comer Communicator has some solid handicap form on the flat and looks the type to do well over timber. Given the likely starting prices though I am inclined to side with A Hare Breath winner of an Irish point to point where the runner up won the other day. He has since finished runner up over hurdles at Ascot.

2.15 Top class hurdler O’Faolain’s Boy makes his chase debut and is reported to have schooled well over fences.

Diary: December 14 2013

12.10 Kentucky Hyden, an import from France won easily at Sandown and looks the one to beat here.

12.40 Le Bec is a course winner who has his favoured good ground.

1.15 At the odds Greywell Bay has an each way chance.

1.50 Saint Roque is another that will appreciate the ground tomorrow.

3.35 This is a tough one to call with all 4 runners having a realistic chance. I would give a slight edge to Salubrious.

Doncaster selections

12.25 Warden Hill

1.00 Karinga Dancer

1.35 Runswick Royal (ew)
