Oaks day at Epsom gets under way with the Group 3 Princess Elizabeth Stakes at 1.40. Nothing from the current list to follow here but there are a couple of runners from last seasons list, Echelon and Musicanna.  Echelon recorded her first win at this level 3 weeks ago at Lingfield over 7 furlongs.  Has an obvious chance. Musicanna’s 3rd to recent winner Peeress in Group 1 company last October reads well.  She could only finish 7th of 8 on her reappearance last month but may have needed the run.  My selection would be Echelon

2.10 Hinterland has won 2 of his 3 starts and shown a willing attitude in the process. Trafalgar Square was a very comfortable winner last time out at Goodwood.  Both would have a chance but my preference would be for Trafalgar Square.

2.45 Star of Light has already won a couple of valuable handicaps. Thunder Rock failed to justify favouritism when 3rd at Newmarket last time.  He had no particular excuses that day but didn’t run badly.  Both have each way chances.

3.25 Shirocco was most impressive at Newmarket and looks the one to be on.

4.05 Alexandrova represents the list to follow in a race where I don’t have any strong views.  Speciosa if she stays would be the form pick and it would be nice to see Pam Sly successful again.  Riyalma has an each way chance,

4.45 Bouboulina went on the list to follow on the strength of an impressive win at Lingfield on the AW last season. Disappointed on return at Newmarket in April.

Bath 6.15 Apollo Five, Stagehand and Queensgate are all bred to win as juveniles and have all had one run.  Apollo Five showed the best form coming 3rd at Warwick. Vaunt is an interesting newcomer.  Both the dams other 2 foals won as two year olds.

Catterick  3.35 Bo McGinty and Trojan Flight are a couple of old favourites.   Both are well enough handicapped on the best of their form and can win races this season.

4.15 Confide was a beaten favourite last time when probably he didn’t relish the soft ground.  He should be better than that given a sound surface.

4.50 Celtic Carisma comes into the reckoning here on basis of win at Southwell.  Well beaten at Newcastle last time when she had traffic problems.

  See you tomorrow
