Winning selections so far this season 9 Best SP 6/1

Newmarket

2.20 Tercel

2.55 Seagull Star

4.05 Toormore

5.10 Margaret’s Mission and Spring Fling split stake both ew

5.40 Laugharne is bred for stamina and contested a Group 1 race last season. He is one for the shortlist. Volume is well thought of at home and could be reasonably handicapped. Cloudscape comes from a yard bang in form and is another that looks potentially well treated. Raven Ridge is another potential improver while Windshear is another that is likely to progress this year. This should be an informative contest and it is a tough one to call. At around 5/1 I will go for Volume.

Newbury

1.50 Astonishing should go well here for a trainer who excels with this type of horse.

2.20 Al Thakhira won his first 2 starts before disappointing on firm ground at Santa Anita. Cape Factor won 4 out of 5 last season and is suited by good or softer. Dutch Courage followed up her win in a Pontefract maiden by taking a nursery at Newmarket. Al Thakhira looks the percentage call with Dutch Courage the danger.

2.55 Berkshire won the Chesham and the Royal Lodge last season while Kingman was very impressive when winning both his starts as a juvenile. Lat Hawill was a runaway winner of a Newcastle maiden last October and comes into the could be anything category. Night of Thunder is 2 from 2 with both successes coming on soft ground and the stable has a good record in this race.  Kingman is the selection with Night of Thunder the main danger.

Thirsk

4.35 Stomachion is the selection.

Winning selections this season so far – 4

Newbury

2.30 Leo Luna has won over 3 miles over hurdles and off a mark of 76 looks potentially well treated here over a trip that should bring out the best of him.

3.05 Scotland won at Epsom on his second start last season. He is well bred and this should be his optimum trip. The ground is likely to suit. Double Bluff won at Goodwood on his second start last season before finishing 6th of 7 at Longchamp in a Group 3. Bred to get this trip and further.

Shankly won a maiden at Salisbury before disappointing when upped in class in France where the ground may not have suited him. Kempton winner Western Hymn is another to consider. Should be open to improvement.

Scotland is narrowly preferred over Western Hymn.

3.40 Another race where there are several to consider. Hors de Combat won a maiden at Kempton on his debut last season before finishing second in a conditions race when odds on. A promising sort. Muwaary won over course and distance on his only start last season and the form of the race has worked out well. Exchequer, the recent Lingfield winner is well handicapped here and on this occasion is taken to make race fitness count. The other two are worth noting for the future however..

4.45 Evita Peron could be the answer here.

5.15 Talmada lost her chance at the start on her only run lat season and can make amends.

5.45 Casual Smile, out of an Oaks winner, should appreciate this step up in trip.

Kempton

7.40 Festival Theatre

8.40 Both Terhaab and Perfect Alchemy look potentially well handicapped and both are course and distance winners. Both stables are in form so it is tricky to choose between them. Terhaab is the selection but Perfect Alchemy is certainly feared.

Pontefract

2.40 Munaaser showed plenty of promise when 3rd in an 8 runner maiden at Yarmouth beaten by horses that had the benefit of a previous run. He is well bred and is entered in the English and Irish Derbies. Zee Zeeley showed ability in a couple of runs last season, only beaten a nose in the second of these. He will appreciate the step up in trip. The other one I like is Sufranel, who lost nothing in defeat when runner up at Kempton over a mile.

Manaaser gets the vote but the other two are worth keeping an eye on.
