Saturday update

I will stick with my selections posted last night but I will add another selection in the Portland (Doncaster 3.00).  I still like Singeur but it is worth having two selections in a race like this so I will add Mass Rally.

Doncaster

1.50 When Norse Blues won at Newbury in March he was 50/1. He has not won since then but had dropped a few pounds in the handicap. He has won in September before.

3.00 Robin Bastiman has sent out 6 horses this month and has had 2 wins and 2 thirds. Singeur represents him here and is in with an each way chance.

3.40 Camelot may well outclass his rivals here. He is not guaranteed to stay on pedigree but I feel he is more likely to get the trip than not. At such short odds I prefer to look for an alternative and Main Sequence and Thought Worthy make most appeal. Slight preference is for Main Sequence each way.

CanonCan

4.15 Strong Suit has not shown his best form recently but this could be a winning opportunity for him.

5.20 Viking Storm has won 3 of his 4 starts this season and is worth sticking with.

Chester

3.20 Estifraaz looks the one to beat here on the basis of his second at Sandown.

5.35 Light From Mars has dropped to a favourable handicap mark.

Newcastle

4.55 Arley Hall is the selection.

5.25 Nearly a Gift has been 8th in his last 5 races and is drawn 8. Just thought I would point it out!

Chester

4.25 Clon Brulee won over course and distance in June and the runner up has won twice since.

Doncaster

1.15 Sir Prancelot has been running consistently and should give a good account.

1.50 Sir Graham Wade won the Old Borough Cup at Haydock last time and should go close under a penalty. The other one I like is Caravan Rolls On who has won 5 of his 8 starts and could still be improving.

2.20 Saddler’s Rock needs to come back from a poor run last time but he may do so especially given that J Murtagh is back on board. He will be a short price though and there may be value to be had each way with the progressive High Jinx, a runner up at York on his last two starts.

3.30 Newmarket winner Ashdan is the selection.

4.05 Mac’s Power is proving expensive to follow having not won for nearly 2 years but I will give him one more chance here.

Sandown selections

2.30 Flying Officer

3.05 Lucky Henry (ew)

Doncaster

2.55 I was temp5ted to go for the well bred all weather winner Gallipot here but she does need to find a fair amount of improvement. In the end I settled for the progressive Ambivalent.

3.30 Space Ship can step up on his promising debut run at Sandown.

4.05 Amadeus Wolfe Tone is a consistent sort and is well drawn.

Doncaster

2.30 Ribaat won well at Haydock and can go in again.

3.05 Desert Law and Jwala have each way claims.

4.10 Beaten Up should win this but he has failed to settle in his races this season and in this small field that could be a problem again. A chance is taken with the once raced Swedish Sailor in the type of race his stables excels in.

Kempton

5.45 Dvinski should go well in the race named after him.

6.15 Openly and Shada are my two against the field.

Ascot

4.15 This looks a very competitive heat with a number of progressive three year old. Gospel Choir and Stencive were first and second at Haydock last time and should again finish in close proximity to each other. Sun Central won over course and distance last month and has form with Gospel Choir who beat him at Ascot back in July. There is very little to choose between this trio but Sir Michael Stoute has his horses in very good form so I will just favour Gospel Choir.

Haydock

1.45 At the odds I quite fancy Makefeh.

2.50 Chil the Kite and Gabrial make most appeal.

3.25 Bated Breath and Strong Suit are my two against the field.

4.00 Sir Graham Wade would have a strong chance if we ignore his defeat last time out where they may have been excuses.

5.05 This test of stamina should suit Aazif. The stable are in good form two.

Kempton selections

2.30 Mijhaar

3.35 Arch Villain
